Posthumanism, New Humanism and Beyond

In this paper, we analyse some of the issues associated with posthumanist rejection Humanism. First, discuss possibilities and challenges that New Materialism Ontological Turn have brought into archaeology in terms understanding past ontologies decolonizing archaeological thought. Then, focusing on concept agency, reflect how its use by authors risks turning it an empty signifier, which can ethical implications limit archaeology's potential for social critique. The things’ effectancy is presented as a valuable alternative to previous conceptualizations ‘object agency’. While acknowledge heuristic many proposals, believe humanist perspectives should not be rejected altogether. Instead creating rigid divides, argue elements Humanism, recently defined philosophical anthropology, hold value when facing current societal challenges.
